Background
This gospel with precisely placed first as an introduction PB and
"Messiah, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:16). Although the name of the author
not mentioned in Scripture, witness all the church fathers
at first (since approximately the year 130 AD) stated that it was written
by Matthew, one of Jesus' disciples.

If Mark was written to Romans
               (See "INTRODUCTION GOSPEL OF MARK" 08 165)
and Luke to Theophilus and all Gentile believers
               (See "INTRODUCTION GOSPEL OF LUKE" 08 169),
the Gospel of Matthew was written for Jewish believers. Background
Jews of the Gospel is evident in many ways, including

(1) dependence on revelation, promise, and OT prophecies to prove
    that Jesus was indeed the Messiah which is long overdue;

(2) it traces the lineage of Jesus, beginning with Abraham
    (Matthew 1: 1-17);

(3) a statement repeated that Jesus is the "Son of David"
    (Matthew 1: 1; Matthew 9:27; Matthew 12:23; Matthew 15:22; Matthew 20: 30-31; Matthew 21: 9,15;
    Mat 22: 41-45);

(4) the use of terms such as typical Jewish "Kingdom of Heaven" (which
    synonymous with "Kingdom of God") as an expression of respect people
    Jews so reluctant to mention the name of God directly and

(5) instructions to various Jewish customs without explanation
    anything (different from the Gospels in the other).

Nevertheless, the Gospel is not merely to Jews. As
the mandate of Jesus, the Gospel of Matthew in fact addressed to all
church, as well as carefully stating the scope of the universal Gospel
(Ie. Matthew 2: 1-12; Matthew 8: 11-12; Matthew 13:38; Matthew 21:43; Matthew 28: 18-20).

Date and place of the gospel is derived not be ensured. However,
there are strong reasons to believe that Matthew wrote before AD 70
while in Palestine or Antioch in Syria. Some Bible scholars
believe that the gospel is the first Gospel written, while experts

(1) to give the readers the story of an eyewitness
    the life of Jesus,

(2) to convince his readers that Jesus is the Son of God and the Messiah
    foretold by the Old Testament prophet, which is long overdue, and

(3) to indicate that the kingdom of God is revealed in and through
    Jesus Christ in a way that is unprecedented.

Matthew anxious that readers understand that

(1) almost all the people of Israel rejected Jesus and His kingdom.
    They do not want to believe because He came as Messiah
    spiritual and not as a political Messiah.

(2) Only at the end of time Jesus will come in glory as
    King of Kings to judge and rule all nations.
